It was full of empty tables, which meant people weren't allowed to sit in. Intentionally caused a queue. The attitude of the front desk staff was very impolite

Had the half hojicha half matcha ice cream. It was incredible. Absolutely the best ice cream this trip, I’m in love!

Matcha noodles tasted ordinary but the matcha dessert was sublime. There were many flies around and one of them flew into my bowl of noodles 😂

I will say tourist had better taste 抹茶 if coming to Kyoto or 宇治. But I will not say 中村藤吉 is the one for tasting 抹茶 or who will be regretted. I don't mean中村藤吉 is bad, it just took me too much time for waiting. Second, the goods of 中村藤吉 is good, but you can have the same taste or foods in other place.

After visiting Byodoin Temple, we came here to have our meals. Affordable and delicious desserts.

Unique flavor, there are byodo-in exclusive desserts sold here. Normally the busiest around lunchtime and a bit after. If you are not fond of the bitterness of the green tea, opt for hojicha (roasted green tea), which offers less bitterness and smooth, sweeter aftertaste. If this location is busy you also have an option to walk down a bit further (maybe 5 mins) to the Namamuta Tokichi original shop which is right across the JR Uji Station.

I'd you go at peak time you will have to wait but you put your name down and can walk around the are and visit shops while you wait. Just remember to go back and check your name has not already been called or you may lose your spot. Different selections of Green tea Soba and nice deserts. Liked the food but was expecting more for the buzz

Very tasty. An unique experience BUT (hence 4 stars and not 5) the menu to lunch or to dine is very very limited with dishes only available during summer (between June and August). We went on May 31 and it was not available.

Traditional green tea sweet. Thick and rich matcha jelly, red bean, plain dumpling jelly assortment, I love it.

Pretty good! But it needs lots of time waiting for the seats. I waited for nearly an hour in the Sunday afternoon.

The food is not that good compare to the other shops. There is also a long lineup. It does have a nice view of the river.

A combination of restaurant and gift shop specialty in green tea. Unfortunately, I normally don't drink any tea. So, I didn't enjoy food and products here. However, I realized on how richness of green tea is; green tea lovers would be happy in this place.

Famous cafe that seems a must for tourists, mark down request outdoor seat can shorten the waiting time. Don't worry it is too cold or not. They prepared heater or fan.

Matcha ice cream and jelly taste good. The red beans are a bit sweet to my taste.

This location is a bit less busy than the honten and has much nicer view of the Uji River
